# Accounting Export and GL Issues: Troubleshooting Guide

## Why does an accounting export show a GL reference error? A GL reference error can occur when a payment method was previously mapped to an account, but that account is no longer active or the Chart of Account field is blank. In that case, the export cannot find the account and the sync for that day will fail.

How do I fix an export error tied to a missing GL account?

1. Go to **Settings \> Register Settings \> Custom Payment Methods**.
2. Find the payment method tied to the error and click **Edit**.
3. Select an **active account** from the **Chart of Account** dropdown.
4. Click **Save**.
5. Run the export again.

If the same payment method, or another mapped item, is missing an account, assign a valid GL account before exporting.

 Which settings should be reviewed for GL code report balance issues?

Review the following areas to make sure every item is mapped correctly:

- **Transaction Types**  
  Go to **Settings \> Quickbooks Integration \> Journal Entry Setup \> Transaction Types** and map each transaction type.
- **Departments**  
  Go to **Settings \> Register Settings \> Departments** and assign the correct GL code to each department.
- **Custom Payment Methods**  
  Go to **Settings \> Register Settings \> Custom Payment Methods** and assign the correct GL code to each payment method.
- **Club Vouchers**  
  Go to **Settings \> Register Settings \> Club Vouchers** and assign GL codes to each voucher type.
- **Member Types**  
  If your club uses separate GL codes for member types, review **Settings \> Class Management \> Set Chart of Accounts** for each class type.

 What should I check if credit and debit balances are still incorrect?

If balances are still off, verify that all related mappings are complete and active, including:

- transaction types
- departments
- payment methods
- vouchers
- member type chart of account mappings

Unmapped transaction types can cause the GL Code report to be unbalanced.

 What should I do if the export still fails after updating mappings?

Recheck the GL account assignments for the affected payment method or report category, then try the export again. If the issue continues, review the related mappings in the accounting and register settings to confirm they point to active accounts.
