Browser - Register: Add a Tip to a Tab

Adding a tip to an open tab and attributing it to an employee

When a guest wants to add a tip to a tab before it's paid, you add it from the Register and attribute it to the employee it belongs to. The tip appears as its own line on the ticket, so it's clear who earned it.

Add a tip
  1. Open the tab you want to tip.
  2. Click the Tools tab at the end of the department tabs.
  3. Click Add Tip. The Include Tip panel opens.
  4. Choose the amount — either a preset (19 %, 15 %, 10 %) or Custom to type your own.
  5. Choose the employee from the Select Employee list.
  6. Click Add.

The tip appears as its own line on the tab, showing the amount and the employee's name, and the Grand Total goes up by that amount.

About the amount

The percentage buttons work off the Grand Total, not the subtotal — so on a $5.00 total, 10 % fills in 0.50.

Choosing Custom clears the box so you can type any amount into Enter Tip Amount.

You have to choose an employee

The tip has to belong to someone. If you click Add without picking one, you'll see:

Nothing is added until an employee is selected — the tab total stays where it was.

Change or remove a tip

On the tip's line in the tab:

  • The pencil reopens the Include Tip panel so you can change the amount or the employee.
  • The amount box on that line can be edited directly.
  • The removes the tip from the tab.
What the totals do

Adding a tip leaves the Subtotal where it is. The tip shows on its own line and is added into the Grand Total. On a $4.72 subtotal with a $5.00 grand total, adding a $0.50 tip takes the Grand Total to $5.50.

Common Questions

Where does the tip show up?

As its own line on the tab, reading the amount followed by the employee's name — for example $ 0.50 Nicole Chapman.

How do I tip an order that's already been paid?

That's a different job — see Browser Clover Tips : Add a Tip After a Sale.

What's the difference between this and the Tips Manager?

This adds a tip to the tab you have open. Tips Manager is for applying tips across existing orders — see Browser - Register : Tips Manager.
