[Register](https://support.clubcaddie.com/browser?hsLang=en#register) October 5, 2026 # Browser - Register: Apply a Modifier to an Item ## Choosing an item's options at the Register, and what the required ones mean ##### **Overview** Modifiers are the choices that go with an item: how a burger is cooked, what comes on it, what's on the side. You pick them at the Register as you ring the item in, in the **EDIT ORDER MENU ITEM** window. Your facility sets up the categories and options, so what you see will differ from the examples here. If a category has a required choice, Club Caddie won't let you save until you make it. ##### **Choose modifiers when you ring in an item** For items that need a choice, the **EDIT ORDER MENU ITEM** window opens as soon as you add the item to the tab. 1. Add the item to the tab. 2. Work down the categories, for example **BYO Burger**, **Cheese**, **Meat Temp** and **Toppings**. 3. Switch on the options the guest wants. Each option is a toggle, green when it's on. Type any instructions in the **Add Note** box. 6. Click **Save**. The **Min** figure next to it says how many you must choose. - **Min : 1** means you must choose at least that many. **Min : 0** means the category is optional. - **Max : 4** is the most you can choose in that category. - **Upcharge Selections : 2** means choices beyond that number start adding an upcharge. - **Upcharge Amount : 1** is what each choice past the **Upcharge Selections** number adds. If you click **Save** before a required category has enough choices, Club Caddie tells you which one: 1. Find the category named in the message. 2. Switch on a choice in it. 3. If your facility turns on the Register setting that pops up modifiers by default, it opens for every item that has modifiers. **Which items open the window?** An item with no modifiers set up goes straight onto the tab. Items with modifiers open the window when a required choice is still to make, or for every one of them if your facility uses the pop-up setting. **Where do the prices come from?** Each option shows its own price. Some categories also add a set amount once you pass the **Upcharge Selections** number. Your facility sets these up (see *Browser - Settings : Inventory Modifier Groups*). A $0.00 option adds nothing by itself, but **Extra** or a category upcharge can still add to the price. **What are No, Extra and On Side for?** Some options show them so you can mark how the guest wants it, alongside the choice itself. See *Browser - Register: Change an Item's Modifiers* for what each one does to the price. **Can I add a note to the item?** Yes. Use **Add Note** inside the same window, before you save. **How do I change a modifier after the item is on the tab?** Click the green **pencil** on the item's line and the same window reopens with your choices still selected.
