Browser - Register: Removing Items from a Tab
Deleting a line item from an open order, and when a manager PIN is required
Overview
Removing an item takes it off the tab entirely. Browser always asks you to confirm before deleting, and — depending on your facility's settings — may require a manager override PIN first.
What it looks like
Each line item has a small delete (trash/X) icon at the right edge of its row.
Steps
Step 1: Find the item on the open tab.
Step 2: Click the delete icon next to it.
Step 3: A Delete Confirmation popup appears: "Are You Sure, you want to Delete Order Item ?" with
Yes and No buttons.
- The dialog also has a close (×) icon in its corner; it behaves the same as No — nothing
is deleted.
- Click No to back out — nothing changes.
- Click Yes to continue.
- NOTE: whether you're asked for a manager override PIN next depends on your facility's item
deletion setting:
- If your facility's setting always requires override, you'll need a manager PIN to finish
deleting an item — unless you're already signed in with manager-override permission yourself, in which case you're never prompted. ("Always" is the name of the facility setting, not a promise that every user sees the prompt.)
- If your facility's setting only requires override when the item was already sent to the
kitchen, you'll only be asked for a PIN when the item you're deleting already has quantity sent to the kitchen.
- Otherwise, clicking Yes removes the item immediately with no PIN needed.
- If a manager PIN is required and it isn't entered correctly, the item is not removed — the
tab is left exactly as it was.
Step 1: Once removed, the item is gone from the tab. This does not by itself change anything already
charged — it only affects what's still open on this order.
Common Questions
Why am I being asked for a manager PIN to delete an item?
Your facility requires manager approval to delete items — either for every deletion, or only when the item has already been sent to the kitchen (which usually means food is already being made).
What happens if I cancel the manager PIN prompt?
The item stays on the tab. Nothing is deleted.
Does deleting an item refund anything?
No. This removes an item from an open, unpaid tab. To reverse something already paid for, see Refunds at the Register instead.
Does this apply to vouchers and punch cards too, not just merchandise items?
The same confirmation step applies. Vouchers, voucher deposits and punch cards are governed by their own manager-override setting, configured separately from the one for regular items — so what you're prompted for when removing them can differ. Check with your manager if you're unsure which applies at your course.
