Browser - Register: Search for an Item

Finding an item on the Register without hunting through departments

On a busy counter it is faster to type two or three letters than to click through departments. The Register has a search box that filters the item menu as you type.

Where it is

Top-left of the Register, above the department tabs: the label Search Items with a Search box beside it.

Search for an item
  1. Click into the Search box.
  2. Type at least three characters.
  3. The item menu filters as you type — there is no button to press.
  4. Click the item you want to add it to the tab.
  5. Click the beside the box to clear the search and bring the full menu back.
What you can search by

You do not have to know the item's name. The search looks at all of these:

| You can type | Example | |---|---| | The item name | bud finds Bud Light | | The PLU | your facility's price look-up code | | The SKU | your inventory stock code | | The item ID | the number Club Caddie assigned the item |

Partial matches work anywhere in the value, and capital letters make no difference.

Two things worth knowing

Search starts at three characters. One or two characters leave the menu as it is; type a third and the results appear.

Results follow your role's departments. Search looks inside the departments your role is set up for, so two people can search the same word and see different results. If a colleague finds an item you cannot, one thing a manager can check is which departments each role covers.

Common Questions

Why might an item not appear in my results?

Check the length first — three characters minimum. If it is longer than that, try the SKU or PLU instead of the name, in case the item is recorded under a different name from the one you use. And if a colleague can find it and you cannot, that may be caused by the departments available to your role.

Is this the same box I use to find an order?

No. Finding an order is done on the Sales screen, which has its own search. This box only finds items to add to a tab.

Can I scan instead of typing?

The Register has a separate Barcode Scanner field for that, which acts when you press Enter.
