Browser - Register: Tab Discount

Applying one discount across a whole tab, and what limits it

Sometimes the discount belongs to the whole ticket rather than one item — a comp, a staff rate, an event rate. The Register has a discount box that applies across the tab in one step.

If you only need to reduce one item, use Browser: Register - Individual Line Item Discounts / Price Override instead. They are separate controls with separate permissions.

Apply a discount to a tab
  1. Ring up the items as normal.
  2. In the order panel on the right, find Add Discount.
  3. Open the dropdown and choose a discount type.
  4. Enter the amount if the box is editable.
  5. Click Apply.

The Discount line and the Grand Total update straight away.

What's in the dropdown

The list opens on Select Type and then offers:

  • Percentage — you type the percentage.
  • Dollar — you type a dollar amount.
  • Your facility's own discounts — everything your managers have set up, listed under the names they gave them. Many are named with their type built in, like Comp (%) or Veteran ($).

Choose one of your facility's discounts and the amount fills in by itself. If you can't type in the amount box, that discount carries a fixed value. Choosing Select Type again clears the discount.

Reading the totals

Applying Percentage 10 to a $4.72 tab gives:

| Line | Before | After | |---|---|---| | Subtotal | $4.72 | $4.72 | | Discount | $0.00 | $0.47 | | Tax | $0.28 | $0.26 | | Grand Total | $5.00 | $4.51 |

Two things worth knowing:

  • Subtotal does not change. It stays at the pre-discount figure. The reduction shows on the Discount line and in the Grand Total.
  • Tax is recalculated on the discounted amount, so it drops too.

You can change the amount and click Apply again — the totals update to match.

When an item has a floor price

Some items are set up with a floor price: a level the price will not go below, however large a discount you apply.

If your discount would push an item under its floor, Club Caddie limits the discount and shows a message listing the items involved:

The discount still applies to whatever room is available above the floor. On an item priced at its floor already, nothing comes off at all — the Discount line stays at $0.00.

If a total is higher than you expected after a large discount, check that message — it names the items that hit their floor. Ask whoever manages your item setup if a floor price needs changing.

When a discount has expired

Facility discounts can be given a schedule. If you pick one whose schedule has passed, it will not apply and you'll see:

Pick a different discount, or ask a manager to extend the schedule.

Common Questions

Who can apply a tab discount?

It is controlled by a role permission, so the Add Discount box appears only for roles that have it. A manager sets it under Settings → Manage Roles → select the role → Register → Can Discount In Order Tab. This is a separate permission from the one covering individual line items.

Why didn't the whole discount come off?

An item on the tab has a floor price and the discount was limited to it. The message that appeared names the items.

Can I discount one item instead of the whole tab?

Yes — see Browser: Register - Individual Line Item Discounts / Price Override. It is a separate control with its own permission.
