Register Settings: Loyalty Points

This article explains how loyalty points work in Club Caddie—how customers earn points from purchases and how they can redeem points toward eligible items. It covers the three core areas of the system: club-wide points-per-dollar earning (the legacy, global approach), inventory-specific earning strategies (fixed points per item or points per dollar at the item level), and customer class eligibility rules that determine which membership types can earn loyalty. It also highlights key behaviors like register settings overriding item-level configurations and the rule that purchases paid with loyalty points do not earn additional points.

The sections below outline how Club Caddie currently handles loyalty points (1), followed by newer, advanced configuration options (2 and 3) that give you more flexibility in designing your loyalty program.

1. Club-Wide Points Per Dollar

This is the legacy, simplest loyalty model: every eligible customer earns the same number of points for every eligible dollar spent, regardless of which items they buy. Points are calculated off the check total (e.g., 1 point per $1), so there’s no way to boost or reduce points for specific items. If a customer pays with loyalty points, the purchase earns 0 new points.

2. Inventory-Specific Item Earning

This is the newer, more flexible model where loyalty can be configured at the item level using an “Inventory Specific” earning strategy at the register. Each inventory item can be set to either earn a fixed number of points per purchase (e.g., 5 points per Noodle Pack) or earn points per dollar spent on that specific item (e.g., 1 point per $1 for that item’s price). A key rule is that the register loyalty strategy overrides item settings—if the register is set to item-specific but an item doesn’t have a valid loyalty type selected, that item earns no points even if a value exists in the Earn field.

3. Customer Class Eligibility and Earning Rules

This category controls who can earn loyalty points, regardless of whether the club uses club-wide or inventory-specific earning. Clubs can set loyalty to apply to all customers or restrict earning to specific customer classes (membership types) marked as eligible in Class Management. Customers without an eligible class will earn zero loyalty points even on items that otherwise earn points. (Separately, redemption requires a customer to be assigned to the check, and paying with points still earns 0 new points.)
