F&B App: How To Take Orders And Add Items Overview

Article Content: This article is an overview of how to take orders in the F&B app by finding and adding menu items using either menu navigation or search. It explains how to apply required and optional modifiers, add special instructions, repeat items, and edit items after they’ve been added.

Navigating the Menu
Menu items are organized in a clear hierarchy to make them easy to locate: Department → Sub-Department → Category → Items. Start broad (like Food or Beverages), then narrow down until you find the exact item to add. Items will appear after you click on the category.

Finding a Menu Item
You can add an item by tapping through the menu structure until it appears, then selecting it to place it on the order. Once added, the item appears in the order summary where you can adjust quantity or remove it if needed.

Using the Search Bar
Search is the fastest way to add items when you already know the item name. Start typing and select the item from the results to add it directly to the order without navigating through menu categories.

Adding Items with Basic Modifiers
Some items require modifier selections before they can be sent to the kitchen (for example, cooking temperature, side choice, or dressings). Modifiers ensure the kitchen receives the item exactly as intended.

Required Modifiers
Required modifiers are typically indicated visually (often with an asterisk) and must be selected before the item is eligible to be sent to the kitchen.

If required modifiers aren’t chosen, the system will prevent the item from being sent.

Optional Modifiers
Optional modifiers allow customization such as add-ons, upgrades, or extras. Some optional modifiers may increase the item price, and the updated cost will display on the ticket once selected.

Special Instructions
Special instructions are free-text prep notes that communicate specific requests to the kitchen (such as “no salt,” “extra crispy,” or allergy notes). These instructions print on kitchen tickets so staff can prepare the item correctly.

Repeat Item
The Repeat function is a quick way to add another of the same item to an order (useful for multiple drinks or duplicate items). Depending on your setup, repeated items may require modifiers to be selected again.

Editing an Item After Adding It
Items can be edited after they’ve been added, including changing modifier selections or updating instructions. Updates apply directly to the item on the ticket, helping you correct or adjust orders without starting over.
