Register : Creating or Editing a Tab
Starting a tab, assigning a customer, and using their saved card
This article covers creating a tab, assigning a customer to it, and saving a card for later use.
Step-by-step
Step 1: Selecting any item in the Register departments starts a new tab automatically. It appears on the right side of the screen labeled Anonymous customer.
Step 2: To assign a customer, right-click the tab and select Customer. In the Search Customer window, search by name to find an existing customer, or click Add Customer to create a new one — First Name, Last Name, Email, Mobile Number, and Gender are required, along with the employee creating the record. Click Done. The tab now shows the customer's name.
Step 3: To open another tab, click the + button. You can leave it as Anonymous customer by clicking Done without selecting a customer.
Scroll Tabs: With more than ten tabs open, a scroll bar lets you navigate between them.
Pay by Customer Wallet and Customer Assignment
Pay by Customer Wallet appears once the tab is assigned to a customer. Saved cards are tied to the customer, not the tab, so assigning the customer is what links the wallet to the tab. Assign the customer first, and the wallet option becomes available — it isn't a setting to toggle or a control to unlock, it simply appears once that link is in place.
The customer also needs a saved card on file for the wallet option to be useful — assigning a customer with no saved card may not be enough on its own. This part isn't confirmed yet: if the customer is assigned and Pay by Customer Wallet still isn't showing, check whether that customer has a saved card next.
This has been confirmed on the Register at the terminal. Whether it works the same way in the Browser app has not been confirmed — treat Browser as unverified for this behavior.
Saving a card to a tab
There are two ways to get a saved card onto a tab:
- Quick path — save the card directly in the Register while starting the tab.
- Persistent path — save the card to the customer's profile first, then assign that customer to the tab.
Whether a card saved through the quick, Register-side path also carries over to the customer's profile for later use is not yet confirmed — don't assume it does. If you need the card available on the customer's profile going forward, use the persistent path instead.
Flex App limitation
A card can be saved to an order at the Register and then used on the Flex App at checkout. A card cannot be saved to an order directly from the Flex App — that save has to happen at the Register first.
Common Questions
When does Pay by Customer Wallet appear as a payment option?
Once the tab is assigned to a customer. The wallet option isn't a setting to toggle or a greyed-out control — it simply appears once that link is in place. The customer also needs a saved card on file; if the customer is assigned and the option still isn't there, check for a saved card next. Confirmed on the Register; Browser is not yet verified for this behavior.
Can a card be saved to an order from the Flex App?
Cards are saved to an order at the Register — that's the entry point today. Once it's saved there, the card is available on the Flex App at checkout.
I saved a card while starting a tab at the Register. Will it show up on the customer's profile later? Not confirmed yet — treat that as unknown. If you need the card on the customer's profile going forward, save it there directly instead of using the quick Register-side save.
