Settings: Loyalty Points Overview
Article Contents: An overview of how loyalty points work in Club Caddie — including earning strategies, customer eligibility, and links to setup guides.
Loyalty points in Club Caddie give your customers a reason to keep coming back. Before you start configuring anything, it helps to understand the three layers of the system — because each one builds on the last. This article gives you that overview, then points you to the right setup guide for your situation.
1) How Customers Earn Points: Earning Strategies
The register's Loyalty Earning Strategy setting controls how points are calculated across your entire operation. There are two options:
Club-Wide Points Per Dollar
Best for: Simple programs where every customer earns the same rate on everything.
Every eligible customer earns a flat number of points for every dollar spent — regardless of which items they buy. Points are calculated off the check total. This is the legacy model and the easiest to manage.
NOTE: If a customer pays with loyalty points, that transaction earns zero new points.
Inventory Specific Strategy
Best for: Programs where you want to reward certain items more than others.
Points are configured at the individual item level. Each item can be set to earn a fixed number of points per purchase, or earn points proportional to its price. The register setting is the master switch — if it's set to Inventory Specific but an item doesn't have a Loyalty Type selected, that item earns zero points.

2) Who Can Earn Points: Customer Eligibility
Regardless of which earning strategy you use, you control which customers are eligible to earn points at all. There are two options:
- Club Wide: All customers can earn loyalty points.
- Customers with Specific Classes: Only customers assigned to designated membership classes can earn points. Customers without an eligible class earn zero points, even on items that are configured to earn.
NOTE: Customer class eligibility is configured in Class Management. If you're limiting loyalty to specific membership types, make sure the correct classes are marked as eligible there first.
3) How Points Are Configured on Items
When using the Inventory Specific Strategy, each item needs its own loyalty configuration. You can do this through the Inventory Center or directly from the Register. Either path opens the same Edit Item window.
For step-by-step instructions, see: Settings: Setting or Adjusting an Item's Loyalty Points
4) Key Rules to Know
- Register setting overrides everything: The register's Loyalty Earning Strategy is the master control. Item-level settings only apply when the register is set to Inventory Specific.
- Paying with points earns zero points: Any transaction paid using loyalty point redemption does not earn new points.
- Combo items cannot earn points: If an item is part of a combo, loyalty cannot be configured on it.
- A customer must be on the check: Loyalty points only apply when a customer account is assigned to the transaction.
