Browser - Register: Managing Items in a Tab
Changing quantity, price, and per-item discount on an open order
Overview
Once an item is on a tab, you can change how many you're selling, override its price, or apply a per-item discount — all without removing and re-adding it.
What it looks like
Each line item in the cart shows the item name, its unit price, an optional per-item discount dropdown, a price field, and a quantity control with − and + buttons plus a typed quantity box.
Steps
Change the quantity
- Find the item on the open tab.
- Click + to add one, or − to remove one.
- The line's price updates automatically — quantity × the item's per-unit price.
- NOTE: if some of this item's quantity was already sent to the kitchen, using − to lower the
quantity below what's already been sent requires manager override. A PIN prompt appears; without a valid manager PIN, the quantity does not change.
Override the price
- Find the item's price field next to the quantity control.
- Type a new price directly into the field.
- NOTE: this field is only editable when your role has the **Can Discount Individual Items In
Register** permission — without it, the field is read-only and the discount dropdown described below does not appear either.
Apply a per-item discount
- If your role has that permission, a discount dropdown (0–100%) appears next to
the item's price.
- Choose a percentage — the item's price recalculates immediately.
Common Questions
Why can't I edit an item's price or apply a discount?
Your role doesn't have the Can Discount Individual Items In Register permission. The price field and discount dropdown only appear for roles that have it — ask a manager if you need it added.
Why did lowering the quantity ask for a manager PIN?
Part of that item's quantity was already sent to the kitchen. Lowering the quantity below what's already been sent requires a manager override PIN — this protects against silently un-billing food that's already being made.
